1. After the Purchase: Did This Impulse Buy Make Sense?
In a previous article, I wrote about why I became interested in using a 1-liter vacuum insulated mug.
That article focused on comfort, rhythm, and reducing small interruptions in daily life.
A few days later, the mug arrived.
This is not an unboxing article.
It’s not a spec-heavy review either.
It’s a simple follow-up question:
Did this large insulated mug actually work in real life?
Many people own vacuum insulated tumblers,
but a 1-liter mug with a handle is still unusual — especially for indoor, long-session use.
So I decided to use it normally.
Sometimes carefully.
Sometimes a little stupidly.
Here's the article I wrote before I bought it.
2. First Impressions: Big, But Not as Ridiculous as Expected
At first glance, it looked large — but not overwhelming.
I had previously used a novelty oversized mug (about 720 ml).
Compared to that, this one actually felt more practical.
The handle helps more than I expected.
Out of curiosity, I tried something unnecessary but satisfying:
I poured a 1.5-liter bottle of Coke Zero with ice into it.
More than half of the bottle fit easily.
At that moment, I realized something very clear:
This mug isn’t designed for “drink quickly.”
It’s designed for “settle in and stay there.”
3. Daily Use: Performance, Weight, and Minor Regrets
Temperature Retention
According to the manufacturer, it keeps drinks below 7°C (45°F) for up to 6 hours.
In reality, during winter,
I sometimes found ice still floating the next morning.
Hot drinks also stayed warm longer than I expected.
That may simply be because of the large volume — but the result is what matters.
Fewer refills.
No reheating.
No rushing.
Weight and Handling
The mug itself weighs about 400 grams.
Filled with a full liter, it’s roughly like lifting a large beverage bottle.
Thanks to the solid handle, lifting it briefly feels fine.
But let me be honest:
Holding it for a long time?
That’s light strength training.
Drinking and putting it back down is fine.
Holding it continuously is not recommended.
4. How I Actually Use It (Including a Failed Experiment)
Most of the time, I use this mug at my desk.
・In summer: ice-cold soda that stays cold far longer than expected
・In winter: warm rooibos tea while writing or reading
The common element here is time.
This mug isn’t about drinking more.
It’s about drinking slowly, without thinking about it.
One pour lasts through an entire session.
I currently use a small plate as a makeshift lid.
(It looks silly, but it works.)
I plan to find a proper cover later, probably at a dollar store.
An Irregular Use Case: Ramen (Not Recommended)
Out of curiosity, I also tried using it as a bowl.
This was a mistake.
The mug is tall and narrow.
That means the bottom is deep.
Eating noodles with chopsticks from it is awkward and uncomfortable.
For soup alone, it might work.
For ramen with toppings?
Not a success.
Still, I’m glad I tried.
Knowing what doesn’t work is part of using something honestly.
For a simple soup with few ingredients, though, it works great.
The wide opening does make it easy to wash,
and yes — it is dishwasher-safe.
5. What This Mug Represents to Me
In my earlier article, I wrote:
“A large mug somehow tastes like happiness.”
After using it for a while, I can explain that better.
This mug allows me to:
・Keep a drink within reach
・Have as much as I want
・At the right temperature
・Without interruption
For me, simply knowing that something is there —
available whenever I choose — is deeply comforting.
Even if I don’t use it immediately.
That sense of optional availability matters to me more than efficiency.
6. A More Honest Personal Reflection
Using this mug made me think about my values again.
I care deeply about being able to choose my own pace.
Being forced, rushed, or pressured by others causes me significant stress —
sometimes enough to affect my ability to function or work.
It would be easy to label that as selfishness.
But I don’t think that’s accurate.
For me, it’s closer to self-preservation.
Small tools that quietly respect my rhythm
help me stay grounded in everyday life.
7. A Quiet Recommendation
If you spend long hours at a desk or working from home,
this 1-liter vacuum insulated mug can help immediately.
If reducing refills and interruptions sounds appealing,
this is a purchase you’re unlikely to regret.
This is the exact mug I use:
